That's apparently where Samsung's headed.

The Leak: Samsung Wants to Go All In on Foldables

According to a fresh report out of Korea (ETNews, backed by leaker Ice Universe), Samsung is planning five separate foldable phones for 2027.

The rumored lineup: the Galaxy Z Fold9, a second wide-format Fold sitting alongside it, the Z Fold9 Ultra, the Z Flip9, and a second-gen Z TriFold2.

That's up from three foldables this year. Basically double the lineup in one generation.

Why the Community Is Split on This

• The five-phone rumor itself — going from one wide Fold to two wide Folds, plus an Ultra, a Flip, and a TriFold is a genuinely aggressive expansion, not a small tweak.

• The "still feels fragile and expensive" problem — a lot of people are still hearing horror stories about screen creases and hinge issues after a year of daily use, and that doesn't just disappear because Samsung adds more models.

• What it means for normal phones — if Samsung's betting this hard on folding screens, flat "slab" phones might start feeling like the budget afterthought instead of the default.

The Reality Check Nobody's Skipping

Here's the thing — Samsung's not doing this blind. The current wide-format Z Fold8 reportedly pulled in 70% of Korean pre-orders this year, which is exactly why they're doubling down.

But strong pre-order numbers in Korea don't automatically translate to "the average student in 2026 is ready to daily-drive a foldable."

Durability concerns are still real. Pricing is still high. A crease you can feel under your thumb every time you unlock your phone is still a crease.

Genius Move or Desperate Flex?

Regular smartphones have gotten genuinely boring — camera bumps, incremental chips, same slab shape every year.

Foldables are at least a real swing at something different. Whether five different shapes actually solves the trust problem is a completely separate question.
